Methodology

Everything on this site is either a primary-sourced fact with a citation and a verification date, or it is labelled as a model. There is no third category, and nothing is generated to fill a gap.

Statutory data

Workers' compensation thresholds, sole-proprietor rules, monopolistic-fund status, auto financial-responsibility minimums and licensing authorities are researched per jurisdiction from the state department of insurance, workers' compensation board and licensing board. Each field stores its source URL and the date it was last verified. Any row older than 180 days is flagged for re-verification and the page it feeds is pulled from the index until it is refreshed.

Premium ranges

Cost is built bottom-up, one coverage line at a time, from published premium observations rather than from a single blended guess. For each line we take a benchmark reported by a named carrier or broker rate study for the closest industry segment, then adjust it for the state's relative cost level and — for workers' compensation — for headcount. Every figure on a results page shows the study it came from and the date it was collected.

State adjustment uses a relative cost index where 100 is the national median, so identical operations in California (index 168) price materially above the same operations in Indiana (index 66). These are market ranges, never quotes: claims history, payroll, revenue and limit selection move the final number more than any input on this site. Benchmarks are re-verified every 180 days.

Certificate and contract requirements

The additional-insured, waiver-of-subrogation and primary-and-non-contributory language quoted on this site is collected from public sources: municipal and state procurement portals that publish insurance requirement exhibits, standard commercial lease forms, and published marketplace vendor agreements. Each entry records the type of party requiring it and the date collected.

What we will not do

Substantive pages will carry a licensed P&C reviewer credit with license number and a lookup link once the review retainer is in place. Until then, treat every page as unreviewed research.
